Bodmin Railway CDA Wagon Appeal

Good evening everyone!

The Bodmin Railway approached us to help them save some CDA wagons for the railway.

After sitting down and talking with the members of the Bodmin Railway and Bodmin Diesel Group, we felt that it was only right to help. We asked some hard questions and got some serious answers.

So, this is the plan;

The aim of the fundraiser is to preserve between 5 and 8 examples, which will include bids on 375000 and 375001. Having identified a group of wagons that have only recently been withdrawn, it would seem that minimal parts acquisition would be needed, which is a big bonus for the campaign.

A bid per wagon, haulage costs and VAT have been estmated at £2700 per wagon.

Should the bids be unsuccessful or the campaign not reach the minimum target of 5 wagons, we will contact each and every donator to offer a full refund or the option to roll their donation over to secure the three MGR-CDA conversions which are currently stored at Fowey or the other three MGRs, which will be ringfenced away from the NWPG's main fund.

Historical Details

British Rail built a fleet of HAA hopper wagons in the 1960s and 1970s which were designed to deliver coal to power stations without having to stop to load or unload. A small fleet of CDA wagons were built to a similar design of the earlier HAA merry-go-round stock for use on china clay traffic in the south-west of England. These new wagons were to displace the aging fleet of wooden 'Clayhood' wagons and featured a rolling roof to protect the material inside. A later batch was produced which were converted from existing redundant HAA wagons.
